What POV means on TikTok, in one line.
POV stands for point of view. A caption that starts with "POV:" puts the viewer inside a situation, usually as "you", and the post plays it out as if seen through their eyes. In Gen Z slang it just means "imagine this is you".
On video, POV means acting. In a photo slideshow the first slide sets the scene and every photo after it is what "you" would see, so you can do it from a camera roll.

Only 14 of 1,332 viral slideshows write "POV" on slide one. It is a video habit, so a POV slideshow still stands out in the feed.
The median POV slideshow got the same views as the library as a whole, and more likes: 12.3% of viewers against 10.5%.
Half the library's 3.5%, because most POVs are jokes or stories. The exception is "POV: you need…": those were saved 5.1% of the time.

How to make a POV work as a photo slideshow.
192 slides in 132 viral slideshows are shot POV, from the poster's own eyes, whether or not the text says so. They were saved 3.9% of the time, a little above the library. These are the shots they used most.
The first slide
"POV:" plus "you" plus one specific situation, under 12 words, small and centred on a calm photo from the scene. A trailing "because…" or "for…" makes people swipe to finish the sentence.
The photos are your eyes
No faces after slide one, except maybe a mirror shot. Camera at chest height looking down; repeat one angle so the change is easy to see. One short caption per slide, or none.
The ending
The payoff (the after, or the best item last), the twist, or a cliffhanger. The house cleaner post ends on a "before" with no "after" and pulled 2,212 comments.
POV is the most natural way to put an app on screen.
A POV is shot from your eyes, and what people look at most is their phone. In "POV: you finally found an app that…", the hand holding the phone is the story.
