How to add your own sound to a TikTok slideshow, and what viral ones used.

To add your own sound to a TikTok slideshow, post it once on a video, save it to Favorites, then pick it from Favorites in the photo editor. Below: every step, trimming and volume, and the sounds under 1,288 viral slideshows by niche and mood.

Adding a sound to photo mode, step by step.

Every TikTok photo post plays a sound. TikTok picks one for you; swap it for any song in the library, or for your own audio once it exists as a sound on TikTok. There is no way to import an audio file straight into a slideshow.

Add or change the song

The quick way, for any sound already on TikTok.

  1. Tap +, then Upload, turn on Select multiple and pick your photos in order. Keep it in photo mode.
  2. On the editing screen, tap the sound name at the top (it says Add sound if none is set).
  3. Pick a suggestion or search by song or artist.
  4. Add your text, tap Next, write the caption and post.

Use your own sound or voiceover

Your audio has to become a TikTok sound first.

  1. Record or upload a short video with your voice or track on it. You can post it as Only me.
  2. Open the posted video, tap the spinning sound icon and tap Add to Favorites. It is now "original sound" under your name.
  3. Start the slideshow, tap Add sound, open the Favorites tab and pick it.

Voiceover: some app versions show a voice recording tool in the photo editor. If yours doesn't, the video route above works for your voice too.

Trim the sound

Tap the sound and drag the waveform to pick the part that plays under slide 1.

Set the volume

Tap Volume and lower the added sound if it fights your text.

Sound picker: what viral slideshows in your niche used.

Pick a niche and the kind of post you're making. The answer comes from the sound on 1,288 viral photo slideshows in the ClonBot research library. We show artist and track names only.

1,255 of the 1,288 viral slideshows with a sound (33 posts had no clear format). "Original" counts every label, including translated ones like "son original".

Does a song get more views than an original sound? Not in our data. Across all 1,288 posts the median was 3.5 million views with a named song and 3.6 million with an original sound, and the median save rate was 3.46% against 3.53%. Inside each kind of post the winner flips: songs led on photo dumps, original sounds led on stories and funny posts. That is noise, not a rule.

What does show a pattern is the kind of song. Photo dumps used the most slowed or remixed edits, because the sound is the caption there. Funny posts almost never did: the joke needs a straight track, often an ironic one. Family and pets ran a named song 81% of the time, the highest of any niche; style, mindset and social media sat at 45%. For the post types themselves see TikTok slideshow ideas.

How to find trending sounds for slideshows.

In the app

Search your niche, open the Sounds tab and look for sounds marked Popular. Open a sound to see how many posts use it and whether they are slideshows like yours. The Add sound suggestions also change often.

In TikTok's Creative Center

As of October 2026 the Creative Center's Trends section lists songs by country and period, with a filter for songs approved for business use. It covers released songs only, not original sounds, so it misses the 43% of viral slideshows that ran one.

92%

of the 1,172 sounds in our library were under one viral slideshow and no other. No sound was on more than 6 posts and no artist on more than 9. A trending sound helps a post get found in that sound's feed, but most viral slideshows simply used one that fit.

Slideshows that post with a trending sound.

ClonBot makes TikTok photo slideshows for app makers. It starts from 1,332 slideshows that already went viral, keeps the hook, slide rhythm and text style, and writes a new story where your app shows up on the phone in the photos, with its real screens.

Autopilot builds posts every night for the day after tomorrow. You approve them, or fix any slide by typing what should change. Approved posts go to TikTok at your times with a trending sound, or to your TikTok drafts if you'd rather pick the sound yourself. See TikTok slideshow automation and pricing.

Questions about slideshow sounds.

How do I create a slideshow with music on TikTok?

Upload your photos in photo mode, tap the sound name at the top to choose a song, add text and post. Full walkthrough: how to make a slideshow on TikTok.

How do I add my own song to a TikTok slideshow?

Post it on a short video (Only me is fine), add that sound to Favorites, then pick it from the Favorites tab in the slideshow editor.

How do you add your own sound from files on TikTok?

There is no audio file import. Put the file on a video in any editor and upload it; its sound becomes yours to reuse. Uploading a finished slideshow video also works, but it plays as a timed video, not a swipe post.

How do I add a song to TikTok that's not on there?

Post it on a video so it becomes an original sound under your name. TikTok may mute it if it matches a recording you don't have rights to.

Why can't I add original audio to my slideshow?

The photo editor only offers sounds already on TikTok. Post your audio on a video first. Business accounts can't use most original sounds at all.

Can I change the sound after posting?

No. TikTok doesn't let you swap the sound on a published post. Save the photos, delete the post and post it again with the new sound.

What are the best songs for TikTok slideshows?

The ones that match your post. 92% of the sounds in our library were used once, so there is no list to copy; the sound picker above shows what posts like yours used.
